Our Learning Resource Centre (LRC)
Our LRC consists of our library and our ICT suite.
Our LRC always aims to:
- Provide a welcoming and stimulating learning environment
- Help inspire pupils to want to learn and to enjoy learning
- Encourage more pupils to read more, read more widely and read more effectively
- Help pupils to develop effective IT and information literacy skills
- Provide resources which effectively support the curriculum and school topic structure
The Library
We are lucky to have a fantastic library consisting of over 10,000 books! The library opened in September 2008, with over 30,000 book loans to date!
The collection is divided into sections for Reception/Key Stage 1 pupils and for Key Stage 2 children. Our book stock contains a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books, including books to support the children’s topic research, as well as story books by hundreds of different authors, including classic authors like Enid Blyton and Michael Morpurgo and up to date favourites such as Jacqueline Wilson, David Walliams and many others.
The library is usually open for children to use at break times, lunch times and after school. Classes also often come to the library during lesson time to research subjects or to choose books to borrow for their class book collections.
Parents and carers are very welcome to come to the library after school with their children, including any pre-schoolers who would like to look at or borrow books. We are happy to create borrower accounts for parents or carers to enable this.
Children are able to borrow two books at a time for up to three weeks (and we don’t charge any late fees).
The ICT Suite
The school’s ICT suite is situated in the same room as our library, making it easy for pupils to research topics on-line as well as using books.
The ICT suite contains 16 networked PCs with Microsoft Office, Junior Librarian and a wide variety of educational software installed. The ICT suite also has an interactive whiteboard and an overhead projector with linked audio speakers, enabling teachers to deliver a wide variety of lessons across the curriculum, including safe Internet use, and programming (using Scratch and other computer applications suitable for primary school children).
Under supervision, pupils are also able to use the ICT suite to add articles and stories to the different blogs on the Newbridge School website.
